Matsuhisa (Nobu, Cyprus)
Amara Hotel, Limassol, Cyprus (Visit: 30th September 2020)
Introducing their signature dishes in Cyprus, is world-renowned chef Nobu Matsuhisa. The extensive menu at Matsuhisa Limassol offers a unique Japanese-Peruvian culinary experience with a bespoke array of NOBU’s legendary signature dishes including black cod with miso, NOBU sushi and sashimi, which of course, we devoured. It was the first night of our mini honeymoon and alas, where else would we go?
Miso soup
The evening commenced with miso soup followed by soft shell crab and eel & cucumber sushi rolls. I usually go for less crunchy rolls with sauces and lean more towards the raw simple end (big fan of sashimi!) but I wanted to explore something different that evening.
Being a huge fan of sashimi, we ordered a dish from the Special Sashimi selection – Tuna tataki with jalapeno dressing. The tuna was so tender and rich and I enjoyed the fact that the dressing was not overpowering the flavour of the tuna; it simply enhanced it.
One of the highlights of the evening was trying out Nobu’s signature dish: black cod yuzu miso. The cod was cooked so perfectly that it melted like butter when you took a bite. In fact, you didn’t even need a knife for this dish.
A second highlight dish which we did not expect to wow us even more than the first Matsuhisa special hot dish, was also the Chilean seabass with umami. I was not expecting to be blown away by the complex and delicious flavours and herbs of this dish which perfectly blended well with the selection of fish.
Last but not least..
Being an avid sushi lover, I couldn’t help myself. Being on our mini honeymoon and my husband saying “Go for it!”, I could see dishes passing by with sea urchin and I have only ever had it once before in New York at an omakase tasting experience. So we went all in – they say go big or go home! Sooo… We went BIG and ordered 4 delicious pieces of sea urchin sushi. As it has a unique flavour, I have to admit, its not for everyone. But it certainly is for me 🙂 So fresh and creamy, each bite tempts you into eating another ..and another and…
Matsuhisa was certainly an experience to remember and I shall definitely visit this place again. In fact, next time I will go for the omakase experience I have been longing to have since Nobu Mayfair, London.
Thank you once again for this delicious Japanese-Peruvian culinary journey of flavours xxx
